Who am I? I’m goddamned broke and grouchy. I live in the middle of the damned ghetto and raise chickens for eggs; grow all my own vegetables and fruit; bake the bread and make the cleaning products. Why? Because I fucking have to, that’s why! That’s what you do when you’re fucking poor! You have to make the shit yourself, dumb-ass!

So what can I tell you? I don’t fucking know. I know a lot about being broke, sure as Bob’s your fucking uncle. I know about how useless an Ivy League degree is when you’re flat-ass broke. I know how to unclog a drain with baking soda and vinegar, and I know how to make my own CHEESE, for fuck’s sake. You tell me who I am.

I have to say I’m a bit shocked. I didn’t know white people could really be that poor. I’m so sorry. Have you considered attaching a PayPal button to the bottom of the site?
I also thought you should know about 7th Generation and Meyer’s. they are making very green cleaning products for only like $7 for 24oz. You really shouldn’t be handling all that vinegar. Anyway, I’m late for my organic butchering class. We’re learning about artisanal knives tonight.
    stay alive, broke-ass.

  2. I enjoy your spunky writing and new farmer status. Congrats.

Wow… Love the site… Think you are incredibly strong and resilient and might actually be my long lost sister… I too, am unfortunately incredibly financially challenged at this time in my life and being unaware of any cheap dirt in New York – even in the ghetto, opted for a small studio to raise my kid in the Windsor Terrace nabe so she could feel safe walking out the door and to school. Space was sacrificed for security in our case. It must be heaven though, to have dirt in the city and chickens! Oh my I would almost give my left foot if I was able to have chickens. But alas! I am grateful to be able to read about someone that is able to have them 🙂 keep up the good work… Love reading your posts.

Also wanted to share a less time consuming way to make bread (mommas always can use more time) that I use. And although they use some fancy-schmancy equipment, trust me it isn’t necessary. A cookie sheet will do 🙂

By the way, I’m particularly intrigued on the growing and use of nettle and dandelion (especially the nettle uses) so if you ever find do find a spare minute please email me.

Thanks and good luck in all your ventures!

Life sucks….is quite a bitch. And lands us on our asses more often than not. Misery loves company. Nice to hear a voice that speaks about what so many are contending with.
